Homosexualist Vincenco Paglia, head of the Pontifical Academy [Against] Life, has defended the appointment of Mariana Mazzucato, an abortion apologist and atheist, to his "academy".

In a statement sent to Vatican journalists on 19 October, Paglia said members are chosen to contribute to "fruitful interdisciplinary, intercultural and interreligious dialogue" - which is not the Academy's mission.

"That is why among the academics there are also non-Catholics: two rabbis, a Shinto academic, Muslims, an Anglican theologian," he deflected.

Under Francis, he said, the Academy sees itself as "a body of study and research," "So the debate and dialogue is between people from different backgrounds." The proper place for such "debates" are parliaments, not papal academies.

The statement adds that Francis nominated the members of the academy, who then made it through the selection process without any red flags being raised. A red flag would have been if Mazzucato were a good Catholic and pro-life.

In the Academy's 2016 statutes, the requirement for members to be pro-life was removed, but members must still agree with the "teachings of the Church", which makes no sense, since being Catholic is not a requirement for membership.
"So let us be confident, let us not be unprepared, let us not be outflanked, let us be wise, vigilant, fighting against those who are trying to tear the faith out of our souls and morality out of our hearts, so that we may remain Catholics, remain united to the Blessed Virgin Mary, remain united to the Roman Catholic Church, remain faithful children of the Church."- Abp. Lefebvre
